During the short night I just spent, I got to thinking about a few things. In Quebec right now, a new law will come into effect in September that will ban cell phones in all Quebec schools. As well as forcing children to say “Mister and Mam” when speaking to their teacher (no other name has been authorized that insinuates a gender other than masculine or feminine).
The young people’s response?
A strike. We’re banning the use of our cell phones during school hours, we simply won’t go. They want to interact with their friends via text message during school hours, while they’re surrounded by other kids.
Tell me it’s bad without telling me it’s bad.
They’d rather stay in their echo chambers than create genuine relationships with others. In my opinion? This will create a generation broken from the real world where there will be very little connection between people and they’ll feel lonelier and lonelier.
The subreddit r/loneliness will likely double its number of redditors sooner or later.
The same goes for online content creators. They become emotionally attached to their content and become anxious or give off negative emotions if their content doesn’t perform.
They’ll look at their reels 50 times a day to track the evolution of views, clicks, engagements, etc. It’s all superficial and pointless.

By 2024, they estimate that 51% of internet and social media traffic will come from bots… they can see the content, interact by commenting on your publications all day long, without ever buying your products of course.
It’s a bubble that will burst sooner or later.
There’s no connection between people. You become anxious and stressed to produce content that will eventually be seen by bots. Like zombies roaming the Internet. Every day, a popular social media creator burned out.
I’m worried about the next generation. As for my wife and I, we prioritize a life with very little TV for my kids, no tablets or phones allowed and we spend days outside at the park so they learn to keep focus while some parents only stay 30 minutes with their kids while they look at their cell phones.

When I was younger, I sold mortgages and started from scratch. I found the names of all the real estate agents in my area and had coffee with them to introduce myself. I can tell you that I had a LOT of coffee. Enough to wake the dead! I estimate 1,000 meetings.
On the other hand, my friend who started at the same time as me adopted a different strategy. He took on 5 to 10 real estate brokers and established in-depth relationships with them. Every week, he visited them to talk business, play golf and get to know them.
The result? $500,000 in commission in one year from just 5-10 brokers. Deep, not wide.
How do you apply this online?
First, forget social media, it’s the equivalent of me going out for 1,000 coffees with brokers. Wide, not deep. It will kill your creativity, sanity and anything that ends with ”ty”.
Then, start building a list (no social media needed) and ensure you filter your opt-in every day (double opt-in, manual review, etc.). Send a large volume of emails for the rest of your life.
That’s how you build a relationship with people.
And for building this relationship with your audience, you get rewards. People want to buy your stuff.
