Strangest way to do business..

More little gems →

Last night, we went to my father’s house for a nice spaghetti with Wagyu beef meatballs,

For ordinary people who don’t know what Wagyu beef is, datts a highly marbled piece of meat from Japan. Highly marbled, highly expensive. When I saw this meal, I said to myself, This is ME! Simple as spaghetti, low-profile as meatballs, but classy as Wagyu.

I GOT A WAGYU BEEF MEATBALLS PERSONALITY

During dinner, I notice that my father is constantly looking at his hedges, which are as long and bushy as the ear hairs of an 80-year-old man, for a moment, then turns his eyes to the trimmer who is working on the neighbor’s hedges across the street.

My father gets up and walks over to him.

”S’cuse me”

“I’d like to get a quote for my big tree across the street… it’s starting to want to sit on my house”’.

‘‘No trouble, I’ll go see about it right away’’

He approaches the tree and gets to work immediately. He takes out his tools and starts cutting off bits of the tree. Piece by piece, it falls onto the lawn.

(My father looks at him with a WTF face)

After 15 minutes, the guy says:

”‘HUH, My wife doesn’t like it when I work for free’’

‘‘…’’

‘‘…I didn’t ask you for anything… just an estimate…’’, says my Father

‘‘It goes without saying that if you make an estimate that suits me, that you do the work, that you get paid, but in this case I didn’t even ask you to do anything,’’ says my father.

‘‘Okay, I’m not charging you anything today, but can you give me a comment on my Facebook page?’’

The man leaves in his truck without giving my father a quote. Without the jobs…

WHAT A WAY TO DO BUSINESS! NO SH*T YOU’RE NOT ROLLING IN MONEY

He did part of the work. (not all of it)… for free and without giving my father a quote. When you offer a service, offer the price accordingly and if you want to be able to offer a good service, raise your price.

Then around 7:30 p.m.. I hear:

DING DONG. Someone at the door.

My dad says I’m waiting for another guy to quote on my hedges and tree. The first guy I called this morning was charging me $1,200 to cut my hedges. He was the biggest in the business.

(Okay, he really went for it….)

The next one arrives. Relatively young, but organized.

He goes around the yard and tells her his price.

400$.

What’s the difference between the two?

The one at 1,200$ charges the correct price, and offers a good service.. sure, but datts not all.. He uses a principle I describe in IP24.

He has repeat business, a significant margin, and a great life.

The other one (at 400$) doesn’t know yet, but he will be out of business soon.

That’s the difference.

If you want to know how to design a good product and charge what you are worth, then this 50$ will be the best investment you will ever make. You can learn more by clicking on this link:
