As long as they are humans on earth, numbers will be rigged:
This week, a popular newspaper published a series of articles that take aim at Quebec’s education system with big numbers to “shock” people.
Headline 1:
”MORE THAN 10,000 UNQUALIFIED TEACHERS IN QUEBEC”
Headline 2:
”61% of teachers at this school are unqualified”
”SHOCKING” – Barbaba, 67 years old
Firstly, this doesn’t concern me because my wife and I have opted to homeschool our four children. Are we qualified for that? Far more than they are, in my opinion.
We both have university degrees, have traveled a lot, and have a good life background.
Our daughter Maggy is currently 2, even 3 years ahead of other children her age, and it’s not me who says so… it’s the professionals we’ve hired to give us advice.
And yet, by their definition, we’re not qualified. We would be part of these numbers.
Someone with a master’s degree in a field other than teaching isn’t “qualified” to teach math to 6-year-olds, according to them. So, the figures in the paper look pretty impressive, but when you dig deeper, you find that they’re just sensationalist.
Anyway, teaching in Quebec is probably the worst living you can do here in Quebec, probably in Canada, since parenting no longer exists. One teacher has compiled a list of the wacky requests parents make of her:
”Could you call my son around 8:30 every night to read your book? Our relationship has improved and I don’t want to spoil it by forcing reading material on him that he doesn’t like. I’m tired of the bickering.
“An e-mail from a parent one night at 9 p.m. asking me to call his daughter to get her off YouTube.”
“Could you please have my child’s teeth brushed at school, because at home we don’t always have time?”
“A mom asked the teacher to cut up his grapes that he was going to eat at snack time. He was 9 years old.”
Let me real clear with you. Parents needs to receive a kick in the butt real FAST or we will be in trouble with the next generations.
I understand the narrative of ”I work every day, I make dinner, I’m too tired to take care of it at night so I leave it in front of a tablet”. But we all make choice. That’s why I have set up my business that way, and we are doing homeschooling.
Now, let mee take off some pressure off your shoulders:
You don’t need formal education to teach something, you need three things instead:
A reason that comes from your gut: You will do everything possible to give them all the tools to succeed, even when the obstacle hits you.
Experience: You need to have done something. you need to know how they feel, what obstacles they will face, etc.
A story: Something that will stick with your readers for their whole life.
