Some people read Dale Carnegie’s ”how to make friends and influence people” to learn about human psychology, others take action differently with six words.
The story goes back to when I was at college in the 2010s. On the first day of class, the teacher says find yourself a teammate for teamwork next class. I look around at the unfamiliar, scared, naive faces and hear a voice next to me saying:
”I’ve got beer at home”.
(as a marketer, I know what he’s doing to me… it’s an AIDA here…. Attention, Interest, Desire, Action)
…Go on, you’ve got my full attention, I say.
”they’re not cold, but it’s good anyway… and I’m staying in the residences on campus a 30-second walk from where we are right now, do you want us to team up?”
(Interest/Desire)
OH YESS!” I say.
(I’m 19-20, OH YEAH I WANT SOME BEERS)
”Perfect, after class we’ll go straight to my place”
(ACTION)
Alright!
This is a discussion from about 15 years ago between me and my friend Manu…the first, but not the last.
Finding what people want is a cheat code to reach your goal and get crazy engagement.
To this day, 15 years later, we’re still friends and regularly go out to dinner with our families.
Now, the image of a cold beer truck on a college campus handing out cold beer is definitely a homerun. It’s what many 19-20 year-olds want.
There are many ways to boost online engagement to differentiate yourself from the competition, and it all depends on your personality. The Donald Trump method is a masterclass in itself. All he does is say controversial things that attract attention faster than lightning strikes a leafy tree.
Not the way most people want to do it… having too much (often negative) attention focused on you and your business. Another way is simply to have an opinion on things that get people talking at the coffee machine (ChatGPT can’t have opinions…).
But one way, if you want to opt for a faceless online business and still get crazy engagement, is to follow this 5-day challenge:

They show you how to get traffic from social media without showing your face.
